Lt. Peter Ruhmel

Lieutenant Ruhmel is the lead supervisor of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and is responsible with managing Investigators assigned to the division.  Lt. Ruhmel graduated from Corning Community College in 1997 with a degree in Criminal Justice, and the Southern Law Enforcement Academy, Session 13 that same year.  Lt. Ruhmel began his law enforcement career in 1999 as a Deputy Sheriff and was assigned to the patrol division and also served as a member of the Special Services Unit.  Prior to acquiring the rank of Lieutenant in 2023, Lt. Ruhmel served as an Investigator since 2006 and was promoted to Sergeant within CID in 2018.  Lt. Ruhmel received training in Criminal Investigative Techniques, Forensic Interviewing, Voice Stress Analysis, Search & Seizure of Digital Evidence, Clandestine Laboratory Investigations and attended the New York State Police Colonel F. Williams Homicide Seminar in 2013.  Lt. Ruhmel is a Certified Firearms Instructor and has served the agency as a firearms instructor since 2004.
