CAPTAIN THOMAS ARGETSINGER

 

Captain Thomas C. Argetsinger is a career law enforcement officer who has served nearly thirty years with the Chemung County Sheriff Office. Captain Argetsinger started his career as a Corrections Officer in 1994 at the Chemung County Jail.  He was then appointed as a Deputy Sheriff in 1997 and moving up the ranks to Patrol Sergeant in 2003, Criminal Investigator/Sgt. in 2006, Patrol Lieutenant in 2017 and Captain in 2023. He currently oversees the Uniformed Patrol Services of the Sheriff's Office and serves as third in command directly under the Undersheriff and Sheriff.

 

He was a member of the Special Services Unit for 13 years and served as commander for four years. Certified by the State of New York as a General Topics Instructor for 24 years, Captain Argetsinger holds certifications as a Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, ASP Instructor, Highway Drug Interdiction, Search Warrants and Firearms ID and Tracking as well as specialized training to conduct interviews with abused children.  Additional certifications/training received include Clandestine Laboratory Investigations received by the DEA and Evidence Technician by the FBI.

 

In 2023 Captain Argetsinger was appointed to the National Traffic Safety Board. Chemung County Executive appointed Captain Argetsinger to serve on the Chemung County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Committee in February 2023.

 

He continues to establish new career goals and strives to meet them each day as he continues to serve in the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
