Operation Safe Child

The Chemung County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the Chemung County District Attorney's Office and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, is implementing Operation Safe Child in Chemung County.

Operation Safe Child is a program that raises awareness about child safety by using equipment that contains the latest digital fingerprinting technology and high resolution photography.  There are currently 37 sites throughtout New York State that are producing Safe Child Cards.  Each card will contain the child's photograph, name, biological information and a fingerprint image of both index fingers.  All information is downloaded into a central data base where it can be disseminated to law enforcement through New York or the United States in a short period of time.  The Sheriff's Office showcased their new equipment on 07/30/2008 at the Chemung County Fair.

Parents or guardians can download the one page Operation Safe Child application below.  Applications will also be available at the Sheriff's Office or at the Sheriff's tent at the Fairgrounds.
